Jesus Christ
All: “We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus—Israel’s promised Messiah—was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.”
Confession & Prayer
Leader: “Join us in praying this prayer of confession together, reading the words in bold.”
All: God of mercy, you sent Jesus Christ to seek and save the lost. We confess that we have strayed from you and turned aside from your way. Have mercy, O God, and forgive our sin. Return us to paths of righteousness through Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Leader: “Let’s take a few moments to continue confessing our sin silently in prayer, asking God to reveal the ways we have strayed from him and turned aside from his way.”
Leader: “Almighty God, Redeemer of all who trust you, heed our cry, the voice of your people. Deliver us from the bondage of sin, that we may serve you in perfect freedom and rejoice in your unfailing love. We praise you for the words of hope found in Isaiah 43: ‘See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.’ We thank you for the good news of the gospel: that Christ has come to make us—and all things—new. We thank you that in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!”

Hebrews 3:1-19 (NIV)
1 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. 3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. 5 “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. 6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
7 So, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
8do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion,
during the time of testing in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested and tried me,
though for forty years they saw what I did.
10 That is why I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”
12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. 15 As has just been said:
“Today, if you hear his voice,

as you did in the rebellion.”
16 Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

Hebrews 3:1-19
“The Faithful Son” (Hebrews 3:1-19)
Bottom Line: Jesus is the faithful Son who calls us to enduring faith!
Look to the faithful Son (vv. 1-6).
He is faithful as our apostle (v. 1).
He is faithful as our high priest (v. 1).
He is faithful as the one appointed by God (v. 2).
He is faithful as the one greater than Moses (vv. 3-4).
He is faithful as the Son over God’s house (vv. 5-6).
Heed the warning of the wilderness (vv. 7-11).
Respond with enduring hearts of faith (vv. 12-19).
We need believing hearts (v. 12).
We need encouraged hearts (v. 13).
We need soft hearts (vv. 14-15).
We need tethered hearts (vv. 16-19).

14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
